BARLEY TEA PACKAGING

PACKAGING DESIGN

BRIEF (SCHOOL PROJECT)

Design a brand for a beverage of the future and extend it to a can or bottle as well as a 4-6 pack.

CONCEPT

Barley tea is a drink that is popular in several Asian countries. It’s refreshing to drink cold during the summer months and a comforting hot beverage in the winter. There are many health benefits to drinking barley tea as well: it’s high in fiber, completely caffeine-free, and contains melatonin, so it can be used as a sleeping aid.

PROCESS

SKETCHES

Some label and branding ideas.

I created a brand called Dalgom Teas for this project. “Dalgom” (달곰) can be translated to “moon bear” in Korean.

I played with some different bottle shapes before deciding on a 12 oz bottle with a slender neck.

PROTOTYPE & ASSET ITERATIONS

I originally had the Korean characters as the main visual element for the front of the bottle, but since this product is meant to be sold to American audiences, it was important to make sure the English is readable and eye-catching.

DESIGN ITERATIONS

I was considering doing a cut-out to show the tea through the circle on the front, but since the tea is so dark the graphics on top wouldn't have showed up as well, so I went just the white circle (meant to represent the moon).
